Welcome to Our Newsletter

February Newsletter Self-Love & Self-Care

If you prefer not to have to have to download the pictures manually. Just add our email address [email protected] to your trusted contacts.

Let’s start this Newsletter for February with a warm hello from Max! He is our calendar mascot for February. Max had a stressful week so today he is taking the day off to do or not do whatever he wants. February is self-love month and Max is a great example of how important it is to check in with ourselves and do self-care when we need it!

This monthly newsletter was created to help build a strong, supportive community of women who want to find ways to pursue fulfilling and meaningful lives through creative expression, learning, and friendship.

We welcome all questions, comments, pet mascot pictures, information on upcoming events for women, and article submissions. Please email us at [email protected] or use the Contact Us form on our website.

If you have a friend you think would like to receive this newsletter, please ask them to go to our landing page to subscribe.

However, if this was sent to you in error or you do not want to receive this newsletter again, please go to the bottom of this message, and unsubscribe. You are always welcome to come back if you change your mind later.

If you are leaving us we will miss you!

Calmness

Create a Self-Care Spa Day at Home

What does self-care mean? Self-care means improving your well-being by creating a positive, healthy, and harmonious balance of mind, body, and spirit.  Meditation, a healthy lifestyle, gratitude, and kindness towards oneself and others is a great starting point.

Connection

This month’s activities are delayed because we are awaiting the outcome of a grant application. If approved the government grant will not only show support for women’s programming but if successful we will have more interesting events at no cost for women in our community.

  • Click here to visit the events section of our website or the quick links below for more details.

  • This month we will be focusing on completing our International Women’s Day Art Project. Robyn Eagle of SawnYah’s Signs and Stuff has offered to make our tree of life out of wood symbolizing Unity Connection and Strength and to be displayed at the March 7th International Women’s Day celebration please click here for tickets! It will also be displayed at the Yellow Canoe on March 8th and stay for the weekend. There wasn’t enough interest to make a party this year but hopefully next year. Join us to decorate your leaf at the library on Feb 21st register here or pick up your leaf and complete at-home details coming soon for pick up.

  • Merrickville Arts Guild (MAG) Art Sessions check here often to check, once the sessions are set up they will be listed there.

  • We request that members of our community submit a sample of their writing: It can be poetry, storytelling, a song, an essay, etc. to help us encourage each other to be brave and share our writings.

  • In our connection section, we ask that a member volunteer to act as a reporter and interview a volunteer member so we can get to know each other. If you are interested in volunteering as a reporter or want to share your story, please email us at [email protected].

  • Happy to announce this month we have our first member’s story. Andrea Howard inspires us all to do what we love and is known warmly as our Merrickville Bug Lady. On YouTube this Friday we will be adding a new video and commentary by Andrea about her life. Here is the link to our YouTube channel here.

“A Gem for the Jewel of the Rideau” written by Joanie Walker

If you live in Merrickville you are gifted with a lively neighbour who is enlightening, entertaining, and engaging. Drawn to this village in the late ‘90s because she heard there was an active theatre group and a famous environmentalist here, Andréa Howard has graced the community with her inspiration as an animator – as our Beloved Bug Lady, as a member of Theatre Night in Merrickville, and as a Big Canoe Leader in the eco-tourism Voyageur Canoe tours run by the Rideau Roundtable – and that’s just a small selection!!

Clarity

What is a Women’s ZenMindset?

As women, we are often so busy and caught in the whirlwind of external demands and stress, balancing careers, family, and a myriad of responsibilities. Amidst all this, we often lose touch with our inner compass, the quiet inner wisdom that resides within us. As you cultivate a ZenMindset, it will help you to be more present in each moment, attuned to your intuition, and deeply connected to those who are important to you.
